The 33-year-old man surrendered after an hours-long standoff at the Carlsbad Village Inn, police said. Officers had responded to a report that the man drew a sword on paramedics about 9:40 a.m. during an unrelated medical call at the hotel, located on Carlsbad Village Drive, just west of Interstate 5, police said.
