Warren mulls ordinance calling for stepped up hotel inspections - Mayor Fouts touts plan as helping to curb blight, crime

Mayor James Fouts is proposing an amendment to Warren’s rental ordinance that calls for additional inspections of hotels and motels. “This ordinance will help put an end to drugs and human trafficking, bedbugs, cockroaches, transient residents, poor maintenance, and lack of security in the establishments,” Fouts said. “It would mean that out-of- town people visiting Warren could expect quality comfortable and safe places to stay.”

Firefighters battle overnight blaze at Montgomery hotel

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Firefighters battled a blaze at a Montgomery hotel early Saturday morning. According to Montgomery Fire/Rescue, units responded to the 900 block of W. South Boulevard around 1 a.m. On the scene, firefighters found heavy flames visible at a two-story vacant hotel complex. Crews declared the fire a second-alarm due to the large volume of fire present. Fire on the roof was extinguished with aerial ladder streams and large hand lines were placed on corners of the building. The fire progressed to a three-alarm fire and more units were called.

Las Vegas hotels under investigation for legionnaires' disease cases - Guests at Caesars Palace and The Orleans Hotel & Casino tested positive for Legionnaires' disease

Las Vegas health officials are investigating cases of Legionnaires' disease found in guests who stayed at two hotels. The Southern Nevada Health District said two guest who stayed at Caesars Palace and another who stayed at The Orleans Hotel & Casino tested positive for the disease, according to a Thursday news release. The infection is caused by Legionella bacterium.

State fines Ann Arbor hotel over worker’s death - Lansing, MICH. (WLNS) — An Ann Arbor hotel has been cited for six serious violations and two willful violations of workplace safety rules following the death in November of a worker at the hotel.

According to a press release from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), the agency imposed six serious citations and two willful-serious citations totaling $155,600 in penalties against US 23 Lodge LLC, which operates Victory Inn and Suites. The maximum penalty for each willful penalty is $70,000 under the MIOSHA act, which was applied to these violations to have an appropriate deterrent effect.
