Turns out this massive storm wasn't a meteorological blip -- the snow at Ski Portillo is still coming down, according to an Instagram post shared today, September 8th.

From the caption:

"❄️ 32 cms / 12.5” in the last 24 hrs ❄️That brings the week’s snowfall to 5 feet and the season’s total snowfall to 582 cms ( that’s 19 feet! ) 😱With no signs of stopping, we’re taking bets - What do you think the season total will be?"

As is often the case during storm cycles, Ski Portillo's access roads are closed, and most lifts are on hold. More snow is in the forecast, so these closures may persist for a bit longer.

But with partly cloudy conditions predicted for mid-week next week, blue-bird powder skiing could be on the table at Ski Portillo in the near future.

The resort typically closes in late September, so Ski Portillo's closing date is likely just around the corner despite all the snow.

Here's to the South American ski season getting its act together in the last quarter. Going out with a bang rather than a whimper is always better.
